Deluxe Tents

Leopard

One of Yala National Park’s most famous leopards, Hamu, was originally spotted in 2004. He created a vast home range in Block 1 and resided there for more than a decade, during which time he raised his family.  Many of the massive leopards roaming are said to be descended from Hamu, the godfather of Yala.

When we happened to come across Hamu on the Buttawa plains in 2017, it was the last time we witnessed the legendary leopard.

In honor of the majestic beasts, whose grace and free spirit we admire, we designed one of our deluxe tents in their likeness.

Sloth Bear

The Sri Lankan sloth bear (Melursus ursinus inornatus) is a subspecies of sloth bear found mostly in lowland dry forests on the island. Sri Lanka’s Yala National Park is an excellent place to see them. In the park, there is a sloth bear called Soththi, also known as Limpy and Ballsy, who fell from a Palu tree and injured its wrist after being drunk from eating too many Palu fruits. He made it, and we can still see his hobbling walk when he’s out and about nowadays. One of our deluxe tents is named after this species to bring out its uniqueness among the fully furnished tents.
